How Self-Reflection Leads to Personal Growth and Self-Discovery
I have buried it so deep that even I can’t find it. The knowledge of who I am, what I am meant to be and where I am supposed to go. That is the treasure I seek, not material wealth or ephemeral pleasures.
Oftentimes I forget and sip on the gory details of my existence, believing that that is the truth, that I must strive forward endlessly towards an ever-changing goal. Work hard and earn more. Earn more and consume more. The more I have the more I want. I was not born this way so what has changed. Where does this come from? This desire for outward expansion.
It is the lies that I was fed from birth, the scenes that played out in front of me every day. I can’t blame my parents, because that is what they learnt at the feet of their parents. It was a life of struggle without the luxury of searching for meaning of life.
Now that I am older and hopefully wiser, now that struggle is a distant memory, my soul seeks answers and the ultimate treasure. Knowledge and understanding. It can only be found in the depths of silence.
But silence is elusive. Sensory overload and modern-day stresses mean that my mind is in constant motion.
Silence feels like laziness, because I have always been rewarded for productivity.
Silence is damning because it mirrors my imperfections.
It is the triggers that detract me from my journey. The feelings of insecurity, fear, anger and anxiety, that thrust me into an emotional rabbit hole.
This is why I write, talk and share. These are my lifelines. Words that teach and motivate; words that feel like they come through me and not from me.
It is in the glimmers, the pockets of peace and connection that grace my day, that I find my truth.
I am a soul inhabiting a human house, on a journey towards self-realisation and liberation.
I am a spark of divinity, lighting the way for other travellers.
What have you discovered about yourself this week?
