How to Create More Joy in Your Life—Even While You’re Healing
If you follow me on social media, you will notice that this week the mantra that I adopted was sprinkle joy. The word sprinkle evokes images of a pinch of something scattered over a surface, for example, sprinkling salt over your food. Chocolate sprinkles on a donut. A sprinkle of refreshing rain. Or perhaps a lawn sprinkler. To me, the word sprinkle represents a little going a long way. In terms of joy and sprinkling joy, this means that it does not need to be a grand gesture. It doesn’t need to cost you a cent. You can spread joy through a smile, kind words, a message to a friend, spending time with your family or sacrificing your time to help someone in need. A gesture that seems small to you may make the world of difference to another.
The second part of this phrase was joy. I realized that I can’t sprinkle joy if I don’t feel joyful about myself and my life. So I had to ask myself these questions.
- Was I always this way?
- When did it change and why?
- What robs me of my joy.
- And what are the things that bring me joy?
I will talk more about the first three questions in another podcast. But for this week. I am focusing on doing more of that which brings me joy. For me, this is making the chocolate cake or cheesecake that my children love, taking a mindful walk in nature – mindful because I walk, noticing the beauty around me and give gratitude for everything around me.
What brings me joy is singing and listening to my favorite music, being creative or trying something new.
My problems, worries are still there, but by creating joyful moments, I can shift my energy and attract more positive into my life.
Create a list of the things that bring you joy and have this as a reminder for when life gives you lemons.
Wishing you a joy filled day!
